The Horse
We purchased this Palace Pier colt for €42,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, having gone to the sale looking specifically for an athletic, later maturing horse who we felt could develop significantly from two to three.
He is a gorgeous, athletic colt with an active walk, who is very light on his feet and an excellent temperament. He isn't the big, burly early two-year-old type and that's exactly what we wanted. We feel there is plenty of physical development still to come as this horse matures during the breaking process.
His sire Palace Pier was an exceptional five-time Group 1-winning miler who improved throughout his career, while his dam Exmouth, by Elusive Quality, was a talented two-year-old herself and achieved an official rating of 92.
The colt is currently with Brian O'Connell in Kilkenny for breaking and pre-training before joining James Owen in Newmarket in early 2027. The plan is to give him time, with a later two-year-old campaign in mind before hopefully progressing again at three.
He is also eligible for the 2027 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes, worth a minimum of €250,000, and is EBF nominated.
This syndicate is structured as an upfront acquisition cost as follows, each share is an outlay for a % equity in this horse. There will be no further expected costs until January 2027.
*The monthly fee excludes emergency veterinary surgeries or procedures. At this point, we will consult all members regarding the situation and plan accordingly.
Monthly fees begin January 2027 at £40/€50 per 1% equity share per month and run for the duration of the syndicate.
The share price includes: Purchase price, bloodstock agents commission, vetting, transport and training fees.
Once we have sold the horse we will disburse any syndicate funds back to shareholders within 8 - 10 weeks on a pro-rata basis. All net prizemoney won by the horse will be returned to the shareholders on a pro-rata basis.
If we believe that we can increase the horses’ value by keeping in training for 2028 we will decide by majority vote with syndicate members.
The Trainer
James Owen has quickly established himself as one of Britain's most successful dual-purpose trainers. After saddling his first Flat runners in 2023, he trained 117 Flat winners in 2025.
His major successes include Rogue Diplomat's Royal Hunt Cup victory at Royal Ascot in 2026 and Wimbledon Hawkeye's Nashville Derby victory at Kentucky Downs, worth almost £888,000 to the winner.
James has also enjoyed an exceptional record for Brownsbarn. Every Brownsbarn horse sent to James has won, including Zahra Dodville who won by 15 lengths on her British debut before finishing third in Listed company at Newbury.
